As a small child I remember watching National Geographic and learning about the Maasai tribe of East Africa. I was captivated by their culture and it embedded a passion deep within me for Africa. I went to Africa for the first time in 2001 and visited South Africa and Swaziland. Over the years I returned to South Africa eight times as well as Swaziland seven times, Botswana twice, Zimbabwe once, Tanzania once, Kenya twice and Liberia once. Each time my focus is to do a service project, but I always take away more than I am able to give. Through my photographs from Africa I hope to share images that tell the stories of a thriving Africa. It might not always seem to be thriving in a photograph, but nevertheless the amount of joy and gratitude the African people carry enables them to thrive more than most people in the states ever could.
